Described in 2025. Plant with erect stems, not rooting at nodes; leaves elliptic with up to 2 or 3 pairs of lateral veins; stipules (short triangular) mostly erect, up to 1.8 mm long; habitat inland (Ngugi, L.B. & Forster, P.I. (2025). Pomax abunda Ngugi and P. beanii Ngugi (Rubiaceae), two new species from Eastern Australia. Austrobaileya 15: 52−70.).
It has not been recorded in the Wide Bay district in the Queensland Herbarium Census
listed as occurring in the Fraser Coast region in the Atlas of Living Australia.
