Species information

Ipomoea cairica   (L.) Sweet WEED

This introduced vine or climber is commonly known as mile-a-minute vine.

Ipomoea cairica is described as a "dicot" in the Convolvulaceae family.

In the Queensland Nature Conservation Act it is not classified as it is not native to Queensland. Under the Federal Environment Protection Biodiversity Conservation Act it is not classified.

Also known as coastal morning glory. A high priority invasive plant listed as locally significant on K'gari in the Fraser Coast Regional Council Local Government Area Biosecurity Plan 2022. 

It has been recorded in the Wide Bay district in the Queensland Herbarium Census and is listed as occurring in the Fraser Coast region in the Atlas of Living Australia.

Reported at 24 Fraser Coast localities: Booral, Dundathu, Dundowran, Urangan, Tiaro, River Heads, Dundowran Beach, Point Vernon, Maryborough, Tuan Forest, Granville, Bidwill, Glenorchy, Teddington, Poona, Tinnanbar, Susan River, Owanyilla, Tinana, Great Sandy Strait, Boonooroo Plains, Eli Waters, Bauple, Tinana South.
