Species information

Iphigenia indica     (L.) Kunth

This native groundcover is commonly known as iphigenia.

Iphigenia indica is described as a "monocot" in the Colchicaceae family.

Flagged as a potential locally significant species in the Fraser Coast Region. In the Queensland Nature Conservation Act it is classified as Least Concern. Under the Federal Environment Protection Biodiversity Conservation Act it is not classified.

Uncommon species in the Fraser coast region recorded at Beelbi Creek, Yengarie, Lenthalls Dam and Mt Urah. Observed to resprout after a hot fire in December and rain two months later at Tinana. Also reported at Takura (https://inaturalist.ala.org.au/observations/146088662). Some specimens south of Mackay recently described as a new species, I. brevis (https://www.researchgate.net/publication/387666350_A_taxonomic_revision_of_the_genus_Iphigenia_Kunth_Colchicaceae_in_Australia). 

It has been recorded in the Wide Bay district in the Queensland Herbarium Census and is listed as occurring in the Fraser Coast region in the Atlas of Living Australia.

Reported at 4 Fraser Coast localities: Duckinwilla, Talegalla Weir, Teebar, Tinana.
