Species information

Lyperanthus suaveolens     R.Br.

This native groundcover is commonly known as brown beaks.

Lyperanthus suaveolens is described as a "monocot" in the Orchidaceae family.

In the Queensland Nature Conservation Act it is classified as Least Concern. Under the Federal Environment Protection Biodiversity Conservation Act it is not classified.

A tall, slender plant with a single erect, narrow, strap-like leaf 12-20cm long. Flowering stem 25-35cm high with 2-6 2-3cm high pale greenish-yellowish flowers. Flowering period August-September. Rare in area. Maaroom; Tinnanbar (Alan Logan). Listed as a special least concern species in Queensland (https://www.qld.gov.au/environment/plants-animals/plants/protected-plants/harvesting). 

It has been recorded in the Wide Bay district in the Queensland Herbarium Census but is not listed as occurring in the Fraser Coast region in the Atlas of Living Australia.
