Species information

Microtis parviflora     R.Br.

This native groundcover is commonly known as slender onion orchid.

Microtis parviflora is described as a "monocot" in the Orchidaceae family.

In the Queensland Nature Conservation Act it is classified as Least Concern. Under the Federal Environment Protection Biodiversity Conservation Act it is not classified.

A slim, slender plant with a single, tubular onion-like leaf that encloses the flowering stem for most of its length. Flowering stem 20-35cm high with 10-30 very small 3mm diameter green flowers. Flowering period August-November. Widespread and common in moist situations. Vernon Conservation Park; Booral Rd (Hervey Bay Airport); Poona National Park (Maaroom & Boonooroo) (Alan Logan). Listed as a special least concern species in Queensland (https://www.qld.gov.au/environment/plants-animals/plants/protected-plants/harvesting). 

It has been recorded in the Wide Bay district in the Queensland Herbarium Census and is listed as occurring in the Fraser Coast region in the Atlas of Living Australia.

Reported at 6 Fraser Coast localities: Booral, Talegalla Weir, Tinnanbar, Tuan Forest, Urangan, Walligan.
