Species information

Syzygium australe     (H.L.Wendl. ex Link) B.Hyland

This native tree is commonly known as scrub cherry.

Syzygium australe is described as a "dicot" in the Myrtaceae family.

In the Queensland Nature Conservation Act it is classified as Least Concern. Under the Federal Environment Protection Biodiversity Conservation Act it is not classified.

Petals not forming calyptra, not shed as flower opens. Hypanthiums less than 1 cm long. Stamens 1-2 cm long. Petals 4-6 mm long. (Flora of south-east Queensland). Also reported at Teebar Creek (https://inaturalist.ala.org.au/observations/142774919) 

It has been recorded in the Wide Bay district in the Queensland Herbarium Census and is listed as occurring in the Fraser Coast region in the Atlas of Living Australia.

Reported at 27 Fraser Coast localities: Bauple, Bauple Forest, Bidwill, Boompa, Brooweena, Craignish, Doongul, Duckinwilla, Gigoomgan, Glenorchy, Glenwood, Gundiah, Howard, Magnolia, Malarga, Maryborough, Mount Urah, Pioneers Rest, Point Vernon, St Mary, Talegalla Weir, Teddington, Tiaro, Tinana, Tinana South, Tuan Forest, Walligan.
