Species information

Pontederia cyanea     (F.Muell.) M.Pell. & C.N.Horn

This native aquatic plant is commonly known as blue hyacinth.

Pontederia cyanea is described as a "monocot" in the Pontederiaceae family.

Flagged as a potential locally significant species in the Fraser Coast Region. In the Queensland Nature Conservation Act it is classified as Least Concern. Under the Federal Environment Protection Biodiversity Conservation Act it is not classified.

Although widespread across northern and north-eastern Australia it appears to be uncommon in the Fraser Coast region. Also reported at Boompa and Mayborough (https://inaturalist.ala.org.au/observations/111180014). In Plants of the World Online known as Pontederia cyanea. 

It has been recorded in the Wide Bay district in the Queensland Herbarium Census and is listed as occurring in the Fraser Coast region in the Atlas of Living Australia.

Reported at 2 Fraser Coast localities: Eli Waters, Tinana.
