Species information

Psydrax odorata forma buxifolia     (Benth.) S.T.Reynolds &R.J.F.Hend.

This native tree is commonly known as stiff canthium.

Psydrax odorata forma buxifolia is described as a "dicot" in the Rubiaceae family.

Flagged as a potential locally significant species in the Fraser Coast Region. In the Queensland Nature Conservation Act it is classified as Least Concern. Under the Federal Environment Protection Biodiversity Conservation Act it is not classified.

Uncommon in the Fraser Coast region reported at Grongah National Park, Mt Bauple, Tinana Creek, Yerra, Wongi National Park, Takura, Lenthalls Dam and Dundowran which appears to be the northern limit of this taxon. Is one of three forms of Psydrax odorata subsp. buxifolia (Gwen Harden, Hugh Nicholson, Bill McDonald, Nan Nicholson, Terry Tame, John Williams. 2014. Rainforest Plants of Australia).  

It has been recorded in the Wide Bay district in the Queensland Herbarium Census but is not listed as occurring in the Fraser Coast region in the Atlas of Living Australia.

Reported at 14 Fraser Coast localities: Bauple, Boompa, Doongul, Duckinwilla, Dundowran Beach, Howard, Magnolia, Malarga, Owanyilla, St Mary, Takura, Teddington, Teebar, Yerra.
