This native groundcover is commonly known as hairy maiden fern.

Christella hispidula is described as a "fern" in the Thelypteridaceae family.

In the Queensland Nature Conservation Act it is classified as Least Concern. Under the Federal Environment Protection Biodiversity Conservation Act it is not classified.

Listed as a special least concern species in Queensland (https://www.qld.gov.au/environment/plants-animals/plants/protected-plants/harvesting). The single specimen backed record has an accuracy of 25km https://avh.ala.org.au/occurrences/46cd32fd-7695-4558-a20e-1c7933975f62 

It has been recorded in the Wide Bay district in the Queensland Herbarium Census and is listed as occurring in the Fraser Coast region in the Atlas of Living Australia.
