This native shrub is commonly known as Leiper's commersonia.
Commersonia leiperi is described as a "dicot" in the Byttneriaceae family.
In the Queensland Nature Conservation Act it is classified as Endangered. Under the Federal Environment Protection Biodiversity Conservation Act it is not classified.
According to the Australian Plant Census now known as Androcalva leiperi (Guymer) C.F.Wilkins & Whitlock and included in the family Malvaceae. Distribution in the Fraser Coast region in St Mary and Wongi State Forest. Outside of the region recorded to the north near Elliott River and reported to the south in Toolara State Forest.
It has been recorded in the Wide Bay district in the Queensland Herbarium Census but is not listed as occurring in the Fraser Coast region in the Atlas of Living Australia.
